What do you do when you have a skein of yarn and some time on your hands? Build a laser obstacle course! This was a big hit with the children in my summer program. They all wanted to be spies like Black Widow. Though the children pictured here are younger, all of the children in the program, including the eighth graders, had a blast.

Materials Needed:

  • A skein or two of yarn
  • Scissors
  • A fairly small room with lots of hooks to tie yarn to, such as a locker room
  • Optional: timer
  • Optional: superhero costumes
  • Optional: prizes

1. Cut the yarn to various lengths and string it from the lockers or hooks to form the obstacle course.

2. Lead the kids into the room. Tell them that the yarn is a laser trap, and that their super secret mission is to get to the other side of the room without getting trapped or shocked by the lasers.

3. Whoever has the fastest time gets a prize! Or everyone gets a prize. Whatever makes the game more fun.

If you have any great superhero-themed party games, let me know in the comments!
